A colourful and fragrant tribute to peace
A 30-foot floral stupa before which Buddha's statue stands on a nine-foot high pedestal - all made out of nearly four lakh flowers in myriad hues - will be the main attraction of the annual 10-day horticulture show at the Lalbagh Botanical Garden, beginning on Friday as part of Republic Day celebrations.
This floral edifice, created to convey the message of peace, will have the pride of place in the Glass House. It will boast 1.5 lakh roses, besides carnations and orchids. Adding to the effect will be a range of foliages such as asparagus, dracena, leather leaf fern and so on. The Buddha statue will be decorated with more than 75,000 fragrant tuberose flowers and gomphrena.
“We have created the Buddha temple to spread the message of peace,” P. Hemalatha, Horticulture Director and Chairperson of Mysore Horticultural Society, told presspersons here on Wednesday.
This year being the society's centenary year, Lalbagh will come alive with multi-hued flowers on various themes at the Glass House, Bonsai Park and Lalbagh lake.
