Colliers Vase tie changed to a Sunday

ASHINGTON CFC will now play the fifth round tie of the FA Carlsberg Vase on Sunday February 12.

The Colliers were drawn away to Gloucestershire side Shortwood United, but the match was scheduled to be played at the same time as Blue Square Bet Premier match between Forest Green Rovers and Luton.

After discussions with the local police the decision was made to postpone the fixture by 24 hours to avoid congestion in the small town of Nailsworth where Shortwood and Forest Green are both based.

The tie will now kick off on Sunday February 12 with a 3pm kick off.

Chairman of Ashington CFC Ian Lavery said: “It does make it awkward for people to get to and some people will be at work on the Monday morning.

“I wish it had been kept on the Saturday, but once we knew that there was another game in the town on the same day we knew there was a possibility of the move and the police have a job to do.”

The victory on Saturday at Newport Pagnell in the fourth round of the competition is the furthest the Colliers have been in the competition and the fans have been praised for their continued support.
