My teacher of ikebana likes to quote the phrase "Everything begins and ends with Haran" - which means Haran, and Aspidistra leaves, is the most important material in ikebana. In classical ikebana is often used as Isshu-ike, a unique material agreement, with 7-10 leaves in the form of art in curves according to detailed rules. The provision should show both the sun (front) side and the shadow (back) side of the leaves, as well as the side view. The overriding principle is the triangular shape with three lines put together to form a balanced and harmonious design.
